War Dogs and Other Wise Purchases

Image
The Three Musketeers, as they've decided to officially call themselves at The Chequerie, got up the morning of the 24th of Wealsun ready to provision. They've done this before, so the group had a good idea what they wanted to try and procure... Block and tackle, for traversing the vertical shaft at the mound dungeon complex, as well as for lifting out the treasure they find, removing the need for footing it between levels, torches, rations, tents (not wanting a repeat of the arduous journey back to Molvar, considering the summer storms of the area)... ...and war dogs. Among other things, Molvar is known for its kennels. In previous campaigns, war dogs have been used to good effect, but also with great cost. At the Molvar Garrison Kennels, 24 dogs were available for purchase, a small number of them trained war dogs. The adventurers decided to name them Artemis, Ares, and Prometheus. Each know, in addition to the basic dog commands, "Attack," "Stand Down," ...

Getting to Know Molvar - Shopping, Gems, Markets, and a Night Out!

After the long day's, and night's, travel, the party rested a whole day in Molvar before venturing out into the town on the morning of the 23rd of Wealsun, Sunday. They had a list of things to accomplish, and set about spending the entire day. Iambred visited the Grand Temple, but didn't say much... Truth be told, he stood around and looked shifty until he finally figured he'd best be moving on, since the priests and patrons were starting to pay him notice. The Temple was a large, L-shaped building with a courtyard between the wings, and a low, wide tower at the end of one wing. A fountain burbled in the courtyard. Meanwhile, Lincoln and Uh-Oh started their morning by visiting Zapzomeb, Uh-Oh's wizard mentor. Zapzomeb lives in the southern ghettos of Molvar, in a squat, round, stone-constructed hovel with a thatched roof. Upon entering, one if met by a fireplace in the center, whose chimney juts up through the thatch. A handful of counters, seating, and some food ...

Return to Molvar - Preparations for Delve Two!

3 - Merchant Guildehouse with Lodging and Stabling 8 - The Inn of the Limping Dervish 6 - Apothecary Market 9 - Trading Post 21 - Bank of the Holy Scepter 22 - The Chequerie The part started out at 11pm on the night of the 20th, and travelled all night, until sunrise. Using their movement of 12 miles per travel day, they were able to easily traverse two hexes. As long as they had stayed on track, this would place them an easy day-and-a-half trip from Molvar. Six hours into their nocturnal journey, they encountered a herd of 30 or 40 large, lowing animals. Unsure of their nature, Uh-Oh, Lincoln, and Iambred slipped quietly around them and continued on their way. At 6am, the sun rose... Directly to their left. Unfortunately, if they'd navigated correctly, this should have been more behind them, indicating they got lost somewhere in the night. What's more, in the sunrise, they saw a distant house complex, which they had not passed on their way out. As the sun rose, tired, and ne...

Treasure Rooms!

Hand-drawn map. Deanna, playing Lincoln the Dwarf, is out mapper, taking verbal mapping commands from me during play. Today's session included a large amount of the kids pouring over this map, as they caught all the symmetry clues that led them to discover the treasure rooms. The game session started where the last one had left off... The PCs had just discovered a large, 20x20 room full of Obsidian objects. While all had some value as treasure, none were particularly valuable on their own. Lincoln took 200cn worth of arrowheads, worth a few hundred xp. Using the map, they realized there was a similar square-shaped void a little to the northwest. Searching for the secret keyhole, twenty feet up in the ceiling (for which they had discovered two 10-foot poles that screwed together, with a special candle-snuffer on one end, just high enough to reach the ceiling holes), they were able to open the Crystal Room. Remembering the library records they'd found earlier, which mentioned fou...
